Bombay

The bombay is a miniature panther produced by outcrossing Burmese to Black American Shorthairs. The first of these outcrossings occurred in 1958, and the breed was recognized and admitted to championship shows by the cat clubs after 1976.

The primary characteristic of the breed is its glossy, jet-black coat-a fur so short, smooth, and close-lying that it resembles patent leather. The cat was named for thecity of Bombay because it looks like a smaller versian of the Indian black leopard. Unlike its wild cousin, however, the Bombay loves the company of humans.
